    Trento in a day

If you are planning a day trip from Lake Idro to Trento, you are in for a treat. Trento is a charming city north of Lake Idro, rich in history and architectural beauty. From mid-November onwards, picturesque little wooden houses are set up in Piazza Cesare Battisti and Piazza Fiera for the Trento Christmas market, a paradise of local products.

What to see in Trento during a day trip?

    • Piazza del Duomo:

Start your visit in the heart of the city at Piazza del Duomo. Admire the beautiful Trento Cathedral (Duomo di San Vigilio) and the Neptune Fountain. The square is surrounded by historical buildings and is a great starting point for your exploration.

    • Buonconsiglio Castle:

Explore Buonconsiglio Castle, a medieval fortress that houses several museums. The castle offers insights into the history of Trentino, and you can enjoy impressive frescoes, art collections and panoramic views of the city.

    • Stroll through the streets of the centre:

Stroll around Piazza Duomo and Piazza Fiera, two lively squares with shops, cafés and historic buildings. These areas are ideal for soaking up the local atmosphere and enjoying a coffee or a meal.

    • MUSE – Science Museum:

If you are interested in science and technology, visit MUSE, Trento’s Science Museum. It is an interactive and engaging museum covering a wide range of scientific topics, including natural sciences, sustainability and innovation. It is a museum for all ages.

    • Palazzo delle Albere:

next to the MUSE is an elegant 16th century palace, the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Trento. Inside, the rooms still preserve precious traces of frescoes. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful park and often hosts cultural events and exhibitions.

    • Church of Santa Maria Maggiore:

Visit the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, an impressive Romanesque-Gothic church known for its beautiful frescoes. The church is located near Piazza Duomo.

    • Bike tour along the Adige River:

If time remains, consider renting a bike and taking a ride along the Adige River. Trento has a network of cycle paths that offer a scenic and relaxing way to explore the surroundings.

Tip! During your day in Trento, try something typical like ‘strangolapreti’, bread dumplings with spinach, and ‘carne salada’, thin slices of beef marinated with salt, pepper, garlic and spices and then smoked.

Have a good day in Trento!
