The church of San Lorenzo (XIII) in Condino

A small church, on top of a mountain. It could be straight out of a fairytale book.

The route is about one hour walk and is suitable for young and old. And if, like me, you are passionate about photography, this walk will certainly not disappoint you. Make sure to wear good shoes, because sturdy footwear is very important in the mountains! We started by bike from Storo, but that is also possible from eg Ponte Caffaro, and cycled towards Condino. We left our bikes behind at Bicigrill Condino (loc Bersaglio). Behind the Bicigrill runs a river with a bridge over it, walk over it and you will see the first sign that indicates the route. On the way you will pass an old bunker from the First World War where cannons were fired. You can walk all the way in and see the different positions where the cannons have been.

Keep following the path, in the beginning some parts are a bit steep but after you walk further up it becomes less and the mountain path is more walkable. I don’t know if it is a coincidence, but during our walk there were a lot of butterflies. At some point you come to a kind of “intersection”. A beautiful stream flows from the mountains and there is a water basin made from a tree trunk. Here you keep to the left and keep following the path further up. On the way back, instead of taking the same mountain path, walk along the basin, you will cross a bridge and the path slowly descends downwards. You will then end up at the cycle path. After a 5 minute walk to the north you are back at the starting point at the bridge.

After the intersection we are at the top within 10 minutes. On the way we pass an old guard post from the First World War, which used to be connected to the trenches at the church.

And once upstairs… .. enjoy !!! What a view! As you will see there are several old trenches, very exciting to walk through here. The water from the fountain is drinking water, fill your water bottle for the way back! You can enjoy a picnic here, enjoy the peace and quiet and children will not have enough time to discover the area!
