One of the most beautiful trips I made recently was to Lago di Campo in the Daone Valley. It is a place that immediately appealed to me for its beauty and sense of tranquillity along the path.
Breathtaking scenery
The trail starts at the car park of Malga Bissina (I recommend booking the car park). The trail meanders along a well-marked path, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and from the first steps, I smelled that typical forest smell I love. Walking among the larch and fir trees, listening to the sound of water from the streams, it was like entering an enchanted world, far away from everything. It is not a difficult trail, in fact it is perfect for a not too demanding hike, and I also recommend it for people who are not super sporty. But do keep in mind that you are walking in the mountains, so it is more intense as a ‘normal’ hike.
Intense blue
The total altitude difference of the trail is about 500 metres, with a gradual ascent that makes the hike accessible even for less experienced hikers. After about an hour of walking, I reached Lago di Campo, and I must say that the view left me speechless. The water is deep blue, so clear that you can see fish swimming just below the surface. I sat down on a rock, packed my lunch and enjoyed that moment of pure tranquillity, surrounded only by the sound of nature.
Children
One of the things I liked most about this trek is that it is also perfect for children. I saw several families along the trail and the little ones seemed to really enjoy exploring the small streams and running along the path. The path is not too steep and there is plenty to explore, which makes the hike interesting and adventurous for them too.
Passo Campo
If you are feeling adventurous, you can continue on to Passo Campo. I decided to continue and it was a good choice. The panorama that opens up at the pass is simply spectacular, with views reaching to the highest peaks. The trail gets a little more challenging, but the satisfaction of reaching the top makes up for all the effort.
I recommend this hike to everyone: Lago di Campo is a little hidden gem, perfect for a day of hiking that recharges your body and mind. I can’t wait to go back!
The start of the hiking trail to Lago di Campo in the Daone Valley is about 55 kilometres from Lake Idro. By car, the route generally takes between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions. The road offers beautiful views and the journey itself is an enriching experience.
Have a good trip and lots of hiking fun!
