    Cycling by Lake Idro

When you think of mountainous areas, you may not think of nice flat cycling paths. However, north of the beautiful Lake Idro, you will find many kilometres of wonderful cycling paths that lead to the beautiful Valle del Chiese. With a length of almost 25 km (until Lake Roncone), you will reach the most beautiful places in this green valley.

    L’or da Stor

Starting from Ponte Caffaro (or Baitoni) you cycle for many kilometres along the River Il Chiese to the north. After about 7 km you will arrive in Storo. This little village  is located in Trentino and is known for a certain type of corn which is cultivated there. It is called ‘L’or da Stor’ in its dialect. In other words, the gold of Storo. This is due to the colour of the corn cobs. When the harvest season starts, you will see many attics of the old houses covered with groups of corn cobs. This is how the corn is dried.

    Break

From Storo the cycle path continues towards Borgo Chiese, passing a waterfall on the way and some steeper passages, but easily manageable on a normal bicycle with gears. Just before Borgo Chiese, when crossing the bridge, you will find the Bicigrill. Here you can stop for a drink or something to eat. Here you can also find tools for minor repairs and inflate your tyres.

The cycle path continues and runs for a small part through the village of Borgo Chiese (Condino). Unfortunately, on this part you will also find other traffic, so pay attention. After a few kilometres you get back on the cycle path and you have the road to yourself again, that is, no motorised traffic. You will encounter many hikers, because this route is very suitable for them.

    Lago di Roncone

Continuing along the sloping landscape, you come to the lake of Roncone, il lago di Roncone. A small lake but definitely worth a stop. There is a path around the lake and a nice playground. At Snoopy Lake, you can get a sandwich or salad, a delicious hamburger , a nice cup of coffee or homemade beer.
The cycle path continues from here in the direction of Tione di Trento for those whose legs are not yet tired. After arrival and a small snack, I turned around again and cycled towards Idro Lake.

Tip: Take your bike on the ferry and get off at Ponte Caffaro or Baitoni to take the cycle path.
Take plenty of water with you for the journey and use sunscreen. Some parts of the route offer little shade.
